{"id":152,"date":"2021-03-19T01:09:14","date_gmt":"2021-03-19T08:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/varmintworks.com\/varmint-blog\/?p=152"},"modified":"2021-03-20T01:20:24","modified_gmt":"2021-03-20T08:20:24","slug":"my-first-good-time-lapse-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/varmintworks.com\/varmint-blog\/2021\/03\/19\/my-first-good-time-lapse-video\/","title":{"rendered":"My First &#8220;Good&#8221; Time-lapse Video"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As a past of my work and research on the <a href=\"https:\/\/varmintworks.com\/varmint-blog\/2021\/02\/22\/raspberry-pi-zero-w-time-lapse-deck-view-camera\/\">Raspberry Pi Zero W Time-Lapse Deck View Camera<\/a> project, I have settled on the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hardware<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An existing GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition<\/li><li>Tripod (I used a tiny 6&#8243; freebie)<\/li><li>Battery Pack (something that outputs at least an amp at 5v to keep camera alive)<\/li><li>Cell phone<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Software<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Install GoPro camera control software on your phone<\/li><li>I used Adobe Photoshop (I have a Creative Cloud license) to assemble the individual photos into a movie<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Process<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The frames per second really drives every decision here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fast Motion (like head-mounted ski capture). 60 fps minimum<\/li><li>Regular Video: 30 fps<\/li><li>&#8220;Cinematic&#8221; feel 24\/25 fps (NOTE: I used 25 fps here)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, how fast is the sky going to change?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Dramatic, fast, storms rolling in? Go with 1 shot every 2 second<\/li><li>Fast moving PNW clouds? Go with 1 shot ever 5 seconds (NOTE: That&#8217;s what I used here)<\/li><li>More &#8220;serene&#8221; day? Go with 1 shot ever 10-15 seconds<\/li><li>Sunrise\/Sunset: Not sure. Thinking 1 fps.
